What Is a Fire Engine?

A Fire Engine is a vehicle used by fire departments to put out fires. It is also used by fire fighters for fire suppression and other emergency responses. They can come in many different forms, from the standard red fire truck to tankers, nozzles and ladder trucks. Fire Engines are equipped with a variety of tools that can be used in a variety of situations, including water pumps, attack lines, fire extinguishers, axes, first aid kits, emergency medical supplies, thermal imaging cameras, ladders and more. Fire Engines also are equipped with standard warning devices, such as sirens, horns and beacons so that other vehicles can clear the way. In larger emergency situations, some fire engines may have special equipment, like hoses with foam, high-powered fans for smoke extraction and tools to extricate people from car accidents. The primary job of a Fire Engine is to transport firefighters and equipment to the scene of a fire, emergency, or rescue. Depending on the size of the fire truck and the nature of the incident, personnel and equipment can be removed from the truck at the scene to control the incident.
