What are Snakes?
Snakes are a type of vertebrate reptile that can be found on all continents except Antarctica & North Pole. They exist in many different forms, including legless, limbless, carnivorous and nonvenomous varieties. Snakes have a long, slender body made up of ribs and vertebrae, which are used to help them move and to support their length. They have no eyelids and instead rely on a combination of temperature sensors, olfactory organs and visual cues to locate prey. Snakes have large, hollow, muscular jaws, which they use to swallow their prey whole. Some species of snakes have venom that can be fatal to their prey, while other species use constriction to suffocate their prey. Snakes rely on their ability to camouflage or blend in with their surroundings to avoid detection while hunting. Snakes are an important part of many ecosystems, and their predators feed on a variety of small animals, birds, frogs and other reptiles. Several species of snakes are extremely dangerous such as the Water Moccasin and the King Cobra.
