What are Rats?
Rats are medium-sized rodents native to many parts of the world. These curious, highly intelligent creatures are some of the most successful mammal species, fitting into most environments easily. Commonly known as Norway rats or brown rats, these animals have grayish brown fur, a long, scaly tail, and a pointed muzzle. They can be identified by their large, round ears and their long whiskers. An adult rat typically grows to between 18 and 22 cm in length, while their tail can be up to an additional 25 cm. Female rats tend to be slightly shorter than males. When it comes to physical traits, the rat’s most obvious features are its seemingly ongoing curiosity and its legendary acrobatic skills. They have an amazing knack for squeezing through the tiniest of places and can jump up to a foot in the air when startled. In addition to being incredibly social creatures, rats are very curious and enjoy playing with new toys and activities. Highly adaptable animals, rats can survive in a wide range of climates, both in the wild and in captivity. It is important to keep rats out of your living area due to possible contamination of disease.
