What are Pirates?

Pirates exist in all parts of the world and have been a presence since the early days of historic seafaring and trading. Nowadays, piracy is less commonplace, although it still exists in some parts of the world such as South America, Africa and Asia. In any case, it is important to understand that a pirate is not a figure of romance and adventure, but a criminal, who profits from the ill-gotten gains of their raids.
