What Is Obsidian?
Obsidian is based on the felsic lava that contains a high amount of mineral elements such as aluminum, silicon, oxygen, sodium and potassium. This how obsidian is made. The volcanic flow is typically rhyolitic lava that creates the obsidian. These flows contain high silica content, making them highly viscous. The viscosity level is such that atoms are unable to diffuse through the lava, hence cannot take the first step in the process of mineral crystallization. Cooling rapidly, in combination with other factors, results in a glass natural product emerging from the lava. Having hardness and brittleness, as well as being amorphous, makes obsidian fracture. It can have very sharp edges. Traditionally, it has been employed for the production of cutting and piercing implements, whereas in more modern times, it has been subjected to testing as a surgical scalpel blade.
