What Is Liquor?

Liquor is an alcoholic beverage produced by distillation of a fermented substance such as grains, fruit,or vegetables. Liquors generally have an alcoholic content of by volume of between 20-80%. There are various types of liquors available today such as whiskey, brandy, tequila, vodka, etc. Generally, liquors are comprised of a spirit that has been aged in wood barrels for varying periods of time. The longer the liquor is aged, the more flavor can be imparted to it from the cask. Most liquors are generally colorless when first bottled but some may be aged in oak barrels to further color the liquor and thus, impart additional flavor. Many countries regulate the production and distribution of liquors. For example, in the United States, laws dictate how the alcohol content of distilled spirits must be determined, the proof and how liquors are labeled and advertised.
