What Is Halloween?
Halloween is an ancient holiday celebrated on October 31st that has its roots in the Druids of the British Isles, Vikings of the Norse Mythology and other Germanic Tribes. It also has other roots in some pagan religions in other parts of the world. They all had festivals celebrating All Hallows Eve. Originally, the holiday was known as All Hallows’ Eve, where it was believed that spirits and ghosts from the past roam the earth on this day. On modern Halloween, people dress in costumes, which often mimic these same supernatural elements. Some traditional foods associated with the holiday include pumpkins, apples and other autumnal produce. People also partake in activities such as trick-or-treating, telling ghost stories, visiting haunted houses and making jack-o’-lanterns from pumpkins. Halloween is a popular holiday in some countries of the world, it is celebrated in many different ways, including trick-or-treating, parades, bonfires and costume-parties. It is one of the most popular celebrations in the USA as a time for children to dress up in costumes going from door to door for candy treats. Happy Halloween!
