What Is Starvation?
Starvation Defined: An person is said to be in a state of starvation if its intake of energy in the form of calories is insufficient for it to maintain its life processes. This is the most severe form of malnutrition. In humans, long-term starvation can lead to irreversible injury to vital organs such as kidneys, liver and heart. It will lead to death. Starvation imposed by the Military or Dictatiors as an action during armed conflicts has been declared criminal under international criminal law, just as it may be employed as a method of torture or execution. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared that hunger is the most perilous threat to global health. WHO also notes that child death is more as a result of malnutrition which happens in half of all cases. Furthermore, undernourishment contributes to the death of 3.1 million children below the age of five annually. Although figures for actual starvation are elusive, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization, milder conditions of undernourishment affect presently around 842 million people or one in every eight people throughout the world.
