What Is A Rattlesnake?
A rattlesnake is a type of venomous snake found in the Americas, parts of Africa and across Asia. They are members of the Crotalinae subfamily, which consists of pit vipers and they are identified by their distinct rattle on the end of their tails that makes a noise when the animal shakes its tail. Unlike other snakes, rattlesnakes have wide triangular heads, small scales between their eyes, and large eyes with vertical pupils, which allows them to detect movement in order to strike prey. Rattlesnakes also have movable fangs that allow them to inject venom into their prey. They are typically passive but can be aggressive if they feel threatened. In the wild, they use their rattles to warn predators and can be heard from quite a distance. All in all, rattlesnakes are an important species in various ecosystems around the world. Their primary food source is rats and mice.
